In the first week of July 2021 in Michigan, Southeast Michigan was hit with some heavy thunder storms, and in some areas even a tornado.
In this video, Dan explains the difference between water backup coverage and flood coverage. Flood Insurance covers you when water from the outside seeps through cracks in the foundation and into your home.
Water backup coverage covers you for when water backs up through the sump pump, sewer, or drains and cause property damage. When property is damaged by the water backup, you are capped at whatever limit you have on your home insurance policies.
For example, if you had water come up through your sump pump and damage dry wall, carpeting, and couches you had in your basement. This would all fall under your water backup limit. Dan encourages everyone to check their current water backup limit on their home insurance policy, and let us know if you need help determining an adequate amount of coverage by giving us a call.
